Early IUP. Day 62. Amniotic Membrane.jpg (13449 bytes)
The Amniotic Membrane is seen as a circle surrounding the fetus.  It is most easily followed around the fetus from the left side of the image.  It appears as a thin, gray line extending from the 11 o'clock position to the 7 o'clock position around to the 3 o'clock position.  The fetus is located inside of the amnion from the 12 o'clock position to the 3 o'clock position.  The umbilical cord crosses the amniotic sac from the 3 o'clock position to the 7 o'clock position.  To make it more apparent, the amniotic sac was retouched slightly.
